WWE Signs Fan-Favorite Professional Wrestlers, Report

One of the most significant successes for WWE in recent years has been its developmental brand, NXT.

Originally created as a reality show, NXT has become a proving ground for wrestlers, successfully creating huge stars like Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair, Bron Breakker, and Roman Reigns, just to name a few.

Still, some wrestlers are put on NXT despite having decades of experience. Such is the case with WWE’s newest reported signing.

According to a report from PW Nexus, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, also known as the Motor City Machine Guns (MCMG), have signed with WWE and will likely join NXT when it debuts on CW.

This was later confirmed by Mike Johnson of PWInsider and Fightful Select. Additionally, Shelley shared and later deleted a post on X that featured the NXT theme song.

Sabin and Shelley have been wrestling since 2000 and 2002 respectively. They formed MCMG in 2006 with Pro Wrestling Zero1-Max.

Starting in 2007, MCMG would wrestle for multiple promotions, including Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and Ring of Honor (ROH), winning tag team championships in all of these companies.

MCMG also wrestled in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) at the All Out PPV alongside Jay Lethal in a six-man tag team match. They wound up losing to Wardlow and FTR with assistance from Samoa Joe.

On top of that, Sabin and Shelley each individually won the TNA/Impact X Division Championship and the TNA Heavyweight/Impact World Championship.

While it’s exciting to see such an influential tag team make their journey to WWE, it’s strange to see such a veteran team be put on the developmental brand.

That beings said this isn’t the first time that WWE has put well-established talent into NXT. Shinsuke Nakamura was a legend in New Japan Pro Wrestling before coming to the USA.

In NXT, Nakamura would become one of the most popular NXT Champions of all time before making his move to the main roster, winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice, the WWE United States Championship twice, the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship once, and the Men’s Royal Rumble in 2018.

In the end, MCMG will be a great addition to a WWE tag team division that is seriously lacking right now. A team of this caliber could seriously raise the stock of everyone other tag team.

Hopefully, they’ll be able to bring their skills to the main roster sooner rather than later.
