Woman Tries To Groom Fluffy Dog Herself, Backfires Spectacularly: ‘Gremlin’

A dog owner’s attempt to groom her small canine at home completely backfired, leaving the internet in stitches.

Ready for his new do, this Maltese and pit bull mix jumped with excitement in a June 2 TikTok video posted by user @lexii_621. His long hair made him look like he had a lion’s mane, an indication it was time for a grooming, and the owner took matters into her own hands.

The owner attempted to give her dog a haircut but she quickly learned it takes a little more than clipping scissors. The dramatic result left her wondering who’s dog was staring back at her. It looked like he lost 15 pounds with all his hair cut off with his ears growing double in size.

The caption reads: “When your truly a Gremlin inside. Wheres my fluffy baby?”

The owner said in the comment section that the haircut took four hours. Four whole hours only to have her dog turn into a gremlin-looking pup.

‘Poor Dog’

The hilarious TikTok clip amassed over 4.6 million views, 825,300 likes, and 2,914 comments as of Tuesday.

“It always seems like a good idea at the time lol,” said a viewer.

A second person added: “I don’t think I’ve laughed this hard in years bc what did you do to that poor dog.”

At least this owner isn’t the only one who messed up their dog’s grooming: “I love when clients try to groom their own dogs cause now they see how what us groomers do isn’t easy.”

Grooming At Home

Dog grooming is important to have canines looking and feeling their best. Plus, it’s a way for owners to check on their dog’s coat, teeth, eyes, ears and nails for any problem signs. Groomers and vets are trained in properly freshening up a dog’s look, but sometimes, those visits are costly.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) provided a few tips for pet parents looking to keep up with their dog’s grooming at home. This includes brushing for several sessions a week, regular baths, nail trimming and ear and eye cleaning. However, the amount of time each is done will depend on the dog breed as some require more grooming attention than others.

It’s also important for those wanting to groom their dogs at home to obtain the right tools. For example, bristle brushes are preferred for short-haired breeds, while long-haired dogs should have sleeker brushes, the article from AKC stated. Brushing daily or every other day will help remove dirt and debris. Plus it will control shedding and prevent matting.
