Woman Finds Strange Stains on Coffee Machine, Sets Camera To Catch Culprit
A cat owner couldn’t figure out why her coffee machine kept getting strange water-like stains near the base, so she set up a camera next to it to see what was happening. However, she did not expect to see what the footage revealed.
The hilarious video, which she shared on TikTok on Monday under the username mojothekitten, reveals the unexpected culprit, her cat Mojo, who can be seen licking the drain at the base of the coffee machine while thinking he’s alone and nobody can see him.
In a caption shared with the clip, the owner wrote: “Disclaimer he is licking a microscopic [amount] of dried espresso and [mostly] milk. [Caffeine] is toxic for cats -coffee machine is now put away.”
Dog wellness experts PetKeen state that coffee is on the list of foods toxic to cats and could cause severe health problems when consumed.
“Your cat might be fine if they only had a few drops of plain black coffee, but different types of coffee have various amounts of caffeine, therefore there is no safe amount,” the website states.
If your cat accidentally drinks coffee, don’t panic, there are ways you can help them. The first thing to do is remove them from the area and clear up the spillage so that they no longer have access to it, Catster advises.
You should try to figure out how much of it they drank and monitor their behavior, keeping an eye out for any twitching, vomiting or diarrhea. If you’re worried, it’s always best to call your vet who will be able to advise you on your particular situation.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.5 million views and 67,800 likes on the platform.
One user, Danielle, wrote: “My cat Castiel LOVES coffee. He isn’t allowed to have it, but he always tries anyway!”
Tumblerartist said: “Took us forever to figure out that the cat tries to drink everyone’s coffee. All coffee has lids now.”
Jeni added: “It took me a long time to discover one of our cats dips her paws into my unattended coffee and shakes them all about then licks them clean just to rinse & repeat.”
Newsweek reached out to mojothekitten for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
