When does the 24/25 Eredivisie Season Start?
The start of the 2024/25 Eredivisie season is a highly anticipated event for football fans across the Netherlands.
The matchday calendar has been meticulously planned to accommodate various fixtures, tournaments, and international commitments. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season.
Season Kick-Off
The 2024/25 Eredivisie season is set to begin on the weekend of Friday, August 9, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024.
This marks the start of the competition for top-flight Dutch football teams, alongside the Keuken Kampioen Divisie (First Division), which also kicks off during the same weekend.
Johan Cruyff Shield
Before the Eredivisie season officially starts, the traditional curtain-raiser, the Johan Cruyff Shield, will take place.
This match features the reigning Eredivisie champions and the winners of the TOTO KNVB Cup.
The game is scheduled for either Friday, August 2, 2024, or Sunday, August 4, 2024, depending on the European commitments of the participating teams.
Winter Break and Mid-Season Adjustments
The 2024/25 Eredivisie season includes a winter break starting on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, and lasting until Thursday, January 9, 2025.
This break allows players to rest and recuperate during the coldest part of the year.
Fixture Adjustments
Due to the new format of UEFA’s club tournaments, there are four fewer midweek match slots available for Dutch professional football.
To manage this, the 33rd round of Eredivisie matches will be played midweek. Additionally, the semi-finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup are scheduled for the weekend of February 22-23, 2025, which provides flexibility for rescheduled matches.
Season Conclusion and Playoffs
The Eredivisie season will conclude with the last matches on Sunday, June 1, 2025. The final two matchdays are set for Wednesday, May 14, 2025, and Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Following the regular season, playoffs for European competition spots and promotion/relegation will take place, primarily in May.
European Playoffs
The playoffs for European qualification will begin on Thursday, May 22, 2025, and end on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
Promotion/Relegation Playoffs
The promotion and relegation playoffs will start on Monday, May 12, 2025, and conclude on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
