Tyler, The Creator Lashes Out at Taylor Swift Fans In Rant

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Tyler, the Creator just stirred the pot during his 30 Minutes of Chromakopia mini-concert in Boston on Halloween night – and he came for the Swifties.

Expressing his frustrations with pop star Taylor Swift’s fanbase, Tyler (whose real name is Tyler Gregory Okonma) addressed the audience about what he perceives as an attempt by the 14-time Grammy winner’s fans to “cancel” him over past lyrics. This comes a few days after the “Earthquake” singer briefly clinched the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s global Top Artist chart for three days, ending 34-year-old Swift’s impressive 698-day reign at the top.

Standing atop a green shipping container in full Chromakopia character, Tyler said to the crowd, “I got Swifties all mad at me with their racist a**,” he exclaimed, adding, “Bringing up old lyrics, b***h, go listen to ‘Tron Cat,’ I don’t give a f*** hoe. I don’t give a f*** b***h. They gonna bring out the old me.”

While it was unclear which specific lyrics he was referencing, the 33-year-old has made sexualized comments about Swift in the past, including lines from his 2011 album Goblin. In the tracks “Fish” and “Goblin” he infamously rapped inappropriate lines about the “Fortnight” songstress, some of which allude to sexually assaulting Swift.

Some fans of the rapper came to his defense, with one fan saying on X (formerly Twitter), “Appreciate Tyler’s response. Fans should focus on the artist’s current work and growth, not dwell on old lyrics taken out of context.” Another agreed, saying, “Love how he handles the backlash! 💯.”

Of course, Swifties chimed in, with many saying Tyler should be canceled. “He needs to be canceled,” one noted. Another stated, “SWIFITES FIGHT BACK,” while a third replied, “he thought he did smth. his whole career was created by 13 year old straight boys.”

Tyler released his latest album this past Monday, October 28, breaking away from the typical Friday release schedule most artists follow. Additionally, he announced a 2025 world tour for Chromakopia, with the U.S. leg kicking off on February 4 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Taylor Swift nor her reps have yet to comment on the situation.
