Trevor Lawrence Doesn’t Mince Words on Jaguars Early Struggles: ‘I’m Pretty Shocked’

Entering the 2024 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars believed that things would be different. After collapsing by losing five of their last six games at the end of last season, Jacksonville came into this year wanting to put it all behind them.

However, through two games, fate hasn’t been kind to them. Jacksonville sits with a record of 0-2, having lost to two AFC opponents, the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.

It’s been tough sledding for the Jaguars so far, with their normally strong offensive attack, looking somewhat weak. Starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked about the struggles and kept things pretty simple.

“We suck right now,” he said. We know we’ve got a good group, we’ve got good players, and we can be a really good offense, but clearly we’re not. Everybody has to take accountability, look in the mirror and fix it. I’ve got to play better. I’m the leader of this offense. It’s on me. The wideouts have to play better, the line has to play better, running backs have to play better, we have to coach better. It’s everybody, honestly.”

Jacksonville scored 17 points against the Dolphins and 13 against the Browns. Things have seemed off chemistry-wise on offense, leading to questions about the team.

“I’m pretty shocked,” Lawrence said.

The blame doesn’t all fall on Lawrence but being the quarterback, he gets scrutinized the most. Additionally, Lawrence himself hasn’t looked overly great, throwing for 382 yards and one touchdown in the first two games.

Communication has been a problem and it’s been reflected in their performance out on the field.

Lawrence added, “We’re standing around, we’ve got to take charge. We’re standing around waiting on somebody to make a play. Defense is playing their ass off the last two weeks. If a team doesn’t score more than 20 points, we should win every week.”

Things don’t get any easier for the Jaguars as they head to Buffalo in Week 3 for a Monday Night Football matchup with the Buffalo Bills. They then host the Houston Texans in what could be a massive game to help decide the AFC South division down the line.

If Jacksonville isn’t prepared, their season could fall off the rails pretty quickly. They will need to be much more organized on the offensive end as they get ready to face a Bills team that dominated the same Dolphins team they lost to.
