Tom Brady Faces Backlash Amid News of Ex Gisele Bündchen’s Pregnancy
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Tom Brady is facing some backlash after using a derogatory term to describe Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen during a live Fox Sports broadcast.
While commentating on the Bills’ game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 28, Brady remarked that Allen sometimes plays “like a spaz” – a term derived from “spastic,” which can be offensive to individuals with disabilities like spastic cerebral palsy, according to the National Center on Disability and Journalism.
Critics quickly voiced their disapproval on social media, with one user stating on X that the term is, “Highly offensive to people who have physical disabilities as well as their loved ones.” Another chimed in, posting, “Brady really just said a player played ‘like a spaz’ Ew..”
Despite the criticism, some fans defended the 47-year-old former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, suggesting the backlash is an example of political correctness taken too far. “grow tf up stop being so soft,” one X user replied.
As of now, Brady nor his reps have publicly addressed the incident. However, the seven-time Super Bowl champ is relatively new to the broadcasting world after retiring from the NFL for good in February 2023. The Patriots legend signed a massive 10-year deal with Fox Sports in May 2022, which reportedly guarantees him $375 million.
This Brady backlash comes a day after People revealed that his ex-wife, Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen, is reportedly pregnant with her third child – her first with boyfriend Joaquim Valente. After Brady and Bündchen divorced in October 2022, the 44-year-old started dating the jiu-jitsu instructor in June 2023. Shortly after the baby news broke, Brady posted an Instagram Story of a sunset with The Chick’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” playing in the background featuring three red heart emojis and the lyrics “Oh mirror in the sky, what is love?” – a move that some think was in response to his ex’s big announcement.
Brady and Bündchen were together for 14 years and share two children – a son named Benjamin, 14, and a daughter named Vivian, 11. Brady also shares another son named John, 17, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan whom he dated from 2004 to 2006.
