Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,044 Answer, Hints and Clues for Sunday, April 28 Game
Stuck on today’s Wordle puzzle but don’t want to give up? Newsweek has compiled a few hints to help you out.
The viral game, invented by Josh Wardle, a New York-based software engineer, is simple to follow. Players must guess one five-letter word per day and have six attempts to guess it. If a correct letter is in the right place, the tile will go green. If it is in the wrong place, it turns yellow. If it is not in the word at all, the tile goes gray.
Wardle invented it because he wanted a game “for me and my partner to enjoy” and refined it during the coronavirus lockdowns of 2020.
It then went public on November 1, 2021, and had 300,000 users on January 2, 2022, according to figures by Statista. The New York Times then purchased the game for an undisclosed seven-figure fee.
Speaking to Newsweek in January 2022, Wardle explained why he decided the game should always be about a five-letter word.
“There is a reason that every word is five letters long and that you are allowed six attempts to guess it. That might seem arbitrary but, with the prototype version, I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of tries that players were allowed,” he said.
“Through that process of refinement, I figured out that five letters and six tries was the ideal sweet spot. It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and to make you think, but most of the time people still manage to solve it. So, you feel a real sense of real accomplishment.”
