Chelsea stalwart Thiago Silva is poised to bid farewell to Stamford Bridge this summer, having reached a verbal agreement with Brazilian powerhouse Fluminense.
The 39-year-old defender has decided to part ways with Chelsea, with a move to Fluminense on a free transfer slated for the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
According to multiple sources, Silva has already settled on terms with Fluminense and will formally join them once his contract with the Blues expires on June 30.
Silva’s departure comes in the wake of Chelsea’s recent FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City, where the veteran player hinted at his future plans without divulging specifics immediately after the disappointing loss.
On Tuesday night, Chelsea fell 5-0 to London rivals, Arsenal in a result that tells story of the clubs struggles on the field.
Having contributed significantly to Chelsea’s campaign this season, featuring in 32 matches across various competitions and netting four goals, Silva’s departure marks the end of an era at the West London club with significant changes expected in the summer.
