The View’s Joy Behar Warns Jennifer Lopez Amid Ben Affleck Split Rumors
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Joy Behar has something to say to Jennifer Lopez amid rumors she and husband Ben Affleck have called it quits.
The View cohost spoke her mind when discussing the split speculation with her costars on Friday, May 17.
“When you go around shouting your love from the rooftops, it gets tricky when things don’t go well,” Behar, 81, said, noting: “My advice is keep your mouth shut.”
Behar further explained that spending years gushing over your significant other so publicly will only inevitably come to haunt you later on.
“Telling everybody how much you love each other and writing it on Instagram and on Facebook, and then you get a divorce and everybody says, ‘Oh, you see?'” she shared.
Lopez has indeed spent the past three years declaring her love for Affleck on social media. (Affleck, for his part, has also gushed about his wife in dozens of interviews.) But on Thursday, May 16, the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer made headlines for a different kind of social media engagement — when she “liked” a cryptic post about unhealthy relationships.
“You can’t build a healthy relationship with someone who … lacks integrity & emotional safety … doesn’t respect your time, doesn’t think it’s important to call/text back in a reasonable time frame … lacks effective communication skills = silent treatment, withdraws, refuses to communicate unless it’s on their terms … doesn’t know who they are or what they want,” the Instagram post read. Each slide also contained an explanation as to how each of these traits are problematic in a relationship.
Several outlets have reported this month that Affleck and Lopez are living separately after tying the knot in 2022. (The couple, who called off their first engagement in 2003, reconciled in 2021.) Until the duo reunited to attend Affleck’s child Fin’s school play earlier this week — after which he reportedly dropped of Lopez at their home but later went to his own property — the A-listers hadn’t been photographed together since March.
