Super Falcons’ Rasheedat Ajibade embraces the reinstated National Anthem
Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade has risen to the occasion by learning the reintroduced Nigerian national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
This anthem, originally composed during the British colonial era, was reinstated after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed a bill from the National Assembly into law on May 29, 2024, replacing “Arise O Compatriots”.
Ajibade, who currently captains the Super Falcons, shared a video on Instagram showing her efforts to master the lyrics of the reinstated anthem.
In her post, she humorously wrote, “I don start to dey learn my own; I no fit argue abeg, as this one na him be naija problem now.” Her commitment points to how important it is for national team players to adapt to this change as they are required to recite the national anthem at international matches.
The decision to revert to the old anthem has sparked mixed reactions across Nigeria. While some see it as a nostalgic return to the past, others view it as an unnecessary distraction from more pressing national issues. Ajibade’s proactive stance, however, sets a positive example for her teammates and fans alike.
