Sunday Oliseh congratulates Victor Boniface as Bayer Leverkusen secures historic Bundesliga title
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has extended his congratulations to Victor Boniface after the Nigerian international played a pivotal role in Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win on Sunday.
Bayer Leverkusen clinched their first-ever Bundesliga title by defeating Werder Bremen 5-0 at the BayerArena, with Boniface emerging as one of the standout performers for the German club.
The victory marked a significant milestone for Bayer Leverkusen, who had never previously won the German league title in their 119-year history, despite finishing as runners-up on five occasions.
Throughout the 2023/24 season, Bayer Leverkusen showcased their dominance, remaining unbeaten in 29 league games, winning 25 and drawing four.
Their impressive performance saw them score 74 goals and concede only 19, boasting the second-best attack and best defense in the division.
Boniface played a crucial role in Leverkusen’s title triumph, contributing 11 goals and eight assists in just 18 matches. His impact extended beyond the Bundesliga, as he also scored five goals and provided two assists in six Europa League appearances, helping Leverkusen advance to the competition’s semifinals.
Nathan Tella, another Nigerian talent, also played a significant role for Leverkusen, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 20 games.
In light of Boniface’s achievement, Sunday Oliseh took to social media to commend the young striker’s exceptional qualities and express his confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria to success at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“Victor Boniface was once again extraordinary as Leverkusen grabbed its first ever Bundesliga title with 5 games left to play. Boniface is strong, skillful, intelligent, mobile, calm under pressure and I am convinced he will lead Nigeria to AFCON glory & more soon. Congrats,” Oliseh wrote.
Despite missing out on the 2023 AFCON due to injury, Oliseh believes that Boniface’s leadership and talent will be instrumental in guiding the Super Eagles to glory in future tournaments.
With the Bundesliga title secured, Bayer Leverkusen now set their sights on winning the UEFA Europa League and the German Cup. Boniface and his teammates are determined to continue their success as they pursue victory in these competitions, with the striker poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming fixtures.
