Stephen King’s Donald Trump Comment Goes Viral

Author Stephen King has taken aim at Donald Trump and the Republican Party following the former president’s conviction on Thursday.

In one of several posts made since Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts relating to the cover-up of a hush money payment made just before the 2016 presidential election, King took to X, formerly Twitter, to denounce Republican claims that President Joe Biden was somehow involved in the case.

“A married man in late middle age spent the night with a younger woman,” King posted on X. “Contrary to the strident claims of Republican politicians, Biden wasn’t in bed with them. Short form: Trump brought this on himself.”

Since being posted at 8:14 p.m.. ET on Friday evening, the post has been viewed more than 247,000 times and reposted by 1,200 accounts. It received a response from X owner Elon Musk, who wrote: “But do you think there is equal enforcement of the law?”

Newsweek has contacted the Trump campaign as well as King via the contact form on his website for additional comment outside of normal working hours.

Following Friday’s historic conviction, several Republican figures have rallied to the former president’s defense, with some saying the case was rigged by Biden and his party. House Majority Majority Leader Steve Scalise wrote on X on Thursday: “Let’s call this sham Trump trial what it is: The weaponization of the judicial system by Democrats against President Trump in a desperate attempt to block him from being elected president again. It’s a total disgrace. And Americans see right through it.”

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson branded Thursday “a shameful day in American history” and said the conviction was “a purely political exercise, not a legal one.”

“It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” Biden said, speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday afternoon. “The justice system should be respected, and we should never allow anyone to tear it down. It’s as simple as that. That’s America. That’s who we are. And that’s who we’ll always be, God willing.”

King’s post follows other remarks addressing Biden’s supposed involvement in the case, as purported by some Republican figures. “Trump has tried to put himself in a no-lose position,” King wrote. “If the jury found him innocent, he could have said they saw it for what it was, a politically motivated witch hunt. Found guilty, he can say it was rigged by Joe Biden, who had nothing to do with it.”

The well-known author has been a longtime critic of the former president, having taken aim at Trump with several X posts in recent weeks. Following the guilty verdicts being revealed in court on Friday, King posted: “The Republican candidate for President is a convicted felon.”
