Sporting Lisbon confirm Manchester United offer for Rúben Amorim
Sporting Lisbon have confirmed that Manchester United is making a move to appoint Rúben Amorim as the club’s new permanent manager.
The Portuguese club issued a statement revealing that the Red Devils are prepared to pay Amorim’s €10 million release clause, identifying him as the top candidate to replace Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United parted ways with Ten Hag after a series of disappointing performances, culminating in what has been described as their worst-ever Premier League season. INEOS, the new ownership group, announced his dismissal, naming Ruud Van Nistelrooy as interim manager while they search for a long-term replacement.
Although other names, including former Barcelona coach Xavi, have been linked with the job, United seems most focused on securing Amorim. Sporting’s statement confirmed the club’s intention to trigger the manager’s release clause, which would allow him to leave his current contract that runs until 2026.
The Red Devils are reportedly eager to finalize the deal quickly to have Amorim in place before their upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday. If the move goes through, Amorim will bring his managerial expertise to Old Trafford, hoping to turn the club’s season around and meet the expectations of the new ownership.
