Shock at How Much St. Bernard Puppy Grows in 3 Months—’Need a Bigger House’

A couple from New York City got a Saint Bernard puppy in May, and they can’t believe how much he has grown already in just a matter of months.

In a viral TikTok video shared in August by @east.side.saint, the puppy can be seen chilling on the floor in the kitchen as a little baby, looking like any other small dog. The next clip shows him three months later in the same spot, taking at least three times more space than he did before.

“He’s just a baby! How big can he possibly get in just three months?’ This Big,” says layover text in the clip. A caption reads: “And he’s only five months old!”

The poster, 28-year-old, Shoshy Ciment Rosen, told Newsweek that Otis is 8 months old now, and the family members have been entertained by how fast he has grown since they first picked him up in May at just 9 weeks of age.

“The difference in size between the clips was so stark, so I think it resonated with people who might not know how fast these dogs can grow,” Rosen said.

Saint Bernards are among the biggest dog breeds, and can grow to 30 inches tall, and weigh as much as 180 pounds. They are also very affectionate with family and great around children.

However, Saint Bernards are also very drool-prone, so they may not be the breed for you if you are not ready to deal with slobber everywhere.

Despite their size, these dogs are not very energetic, and so they don’t need much exercise during the day. A Dogster article, medically reviewed by Dr. Paola Cuevas, says that your Saint Bernard will be just fine with 30 minutes’ exercise every day.

Some activities you can do with your pup include strolling through the dog park and going for a swim when it’s especially hot. This breed originated from the Swiss Alps, so they may refuse to go out when outside is too warm for them.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 517,900 views and more than 14,100 likes on the platform.

One user, Nicborg, commented: “I have a Dane and he went from puppy to adult in 2 months. 30 lb puppy to 160 lb puppy.”

Gabrielekendall35 posted: “Holy cow! That’s what happened in just 3 months? You may need a bigger house in another 3 months …”

Beautiful Chaos Amanda added: “I have a St. Bernard puppy sitting here looking at me. Lol [laugh out loud] 12 weeks & about 30-35 lbs.”
