Ryan Reynolds Teases Taylor Swift Chose His Fourth Baby’s Name
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Ryan Reynolds joked about the influence of his good friend Taylor Swift on the names of his and wife Blake Lively’s children. He humorously remarked that he’s “waiting” for Swift to tell him the name of their fourth child.
Despite welcoming their fourth child in February 2023, the public remains unaware of both the name and sex. The duo’s other children, James 9, Inez 7, and Betty 4 — are all names that have appeared in Swift’s lyrics.
“Taylor Swift keeps dropping [your kids’ names] into lyrics, so just tell us this: Is the fourth child’s name, the baby’s name, anywhere on the new record?” Today host Savannah Guthrie asked Reynolds on the Monday, May 13 episode.
Reynold answered the question without giving any details away — just using humor. “We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child’s name will be. And I’ll say this, we’re still waiting, so Taylor, let’s maybe start [on that], you know. She’s a prolific writer. I mean, what are we doing here? And lazy’s not a word I’d attach to Taylor.”
Since 2015, Swift and Lively have shared a close friendship, with the Grammy-winning artist often weaving elements of the Gossip Girl alum’s family into her music. Their daughter, James, made her debut in Swift’s song “Gorgeous,” featured on the 2017 album reputation, lending her vocals to the opening. Furthermore, Swift paid homage to all three of Lively’s children in the track “betty” from her album Folklore.
In March 2021, when Swift won the Album of the Year award at the Grammys for Folklore, she mentioned Lively and Reynolds during her acceptance speech. Swift thanked all of her “collaborators,” as well as “James Inez and Betty and their parents,” referencing the pair. “[They] are the second and third people that I play every new song that I write,” she said.
Lively also directed Swift’s music video “I Bet You Think About Me” in 2021.
