Rodri named Euro 2024 MVP
Rodri has been awarded the Best Player of Euro 2024 by the UEFA panel of observers. The announcement was made on the stadium’s video scoreboards before Rodri received his award on the podium.
Despite being injured in the first half of the final in Berlin and substituted at halftime by Zubimendi, Rodri played a crucial role in Spain’s tournament success. His exceptional performances throughout the competition were key to Spain securing their fourth European Championship title, adding to their victories in 1964, 2008, and 2012.
Rodri, a defensive midfielder, has had a remarkable season in both club and international football. His stellar performances have earned him the Euro 2024 Player of the Year award. In addition to this achievement, he won the Premier League title with Manchester City and has been tipped to win the Ballon d’Or this year by former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, who tweeted, “Rodri Ballon d’Or confirmed,” after Spain’s final win.
Rodri’s influence has not been limited to the national team. He was named the Champions League Player of the Season for the 2022-23 campaign after scoring the decisive goal in Manchester City’s final victory over Inter Milan, helping the club lift the trophy for the first time in its history.
His consistent and influential performances make him a strong contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or, competing against top players like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Lionel Messi.
Spain’s victory in Euro 2024 not only solidified Rodri’s position as one of the best players in the world but also broke the tie with Germany, making Spain the team with the most European Championship titles.
