Rishabh pant not the only skipper to be banned for slow over rate, check other instances
From Rishabh Pant to MS Dhoni, here are five instances when a captain was banned after being found guilty of a slow over rate.
Leaders take the bullet for the team, and this is precisely what skippers do when it comes to slow over rates. Recently, Rishabh Pant faced suspension for a slow over rate in the Indian Premier League match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) as he was a third-time offender. However, this is not the first time that a captain has been banned for a slow over rate; there have been other instances where skippers have had to miss a match.
Management has always been very strict with the implementation of the over-rate rule, and there have been many cases when captains have had to miss crucial games simply because they were unable to finish the game in due time. Pant was also punished for the same, but his absence will hurt his team in an important match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
MS Dhoni banned for Adelaide Test
MS Dhoni is one captain who is very careful when it comes to maintaining the over-rate in a match. In his absence, Virender Sehwag led the team, and a new joiner, Wriddhiman Saha, had to step in as wicketkeeper.
Sehwag was also fined 40% of the match fees, and the team was penalized with a 20% deduction in match fees.

Kumar Sangakkara IPL ban in 2010
Sangakkara was also forced to sit in the dugout for one match when he was found guilty of taking more time to complete overs in the IPL. Sangakkara was the captain of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2010 when he was punished with the ban.
Sourav Ganguly six games suspension
Sourav Ganguly was handed the biggest punishment for a slow over-rate, as he was slapped with a six-match suspension in One-day International games. This ban came at a time when Ganguly was going through a rough patch.
Misbah-ul-haq suspension in 2016
Pakistan’s former captain Misbah-ul-Haq was also suspended for one Test back in 2016 after being found guilty of a slow over rate during a match against New Zealand. However, he himself was missing the next games since he returned to his hometown following the death of his father-in-law.
