RCB vs RR | Twitter stunned as flying Rovman grabs tracer bullet to dispatch skipper Faf
When the stakes are high and survival is at stake, limits need to be pushed and the ordinary need to be left behind to enter the stratosphere of greatness. Rovaman Powell made that transition brilliantly on Wednesday by grabbing a missile off Faf du Plessis’ bat to cut his innings short.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru aimed to extend their winning streak beyond six in a must-win Eliminator at Ahmedabad and had the struggling Rajasthan Royals in their sights after being asked to bat first. The side managed to get off to a decent start despite Trent Boult’s disciplined lengths curbing their momentum every time he took the ball, but the Kiwi needed a special effort from his teammate to deliver a decisive blow, in the fifth over of the innings.
The left-arm quick banged in a short delivery at the Proteas’ head on the fourth ball and Faf decided to break the shackles by lashing out with an explosive pull shot. The Kookaburra flew towards deep mid-wicket and seemed to be heading towards the boundary given its sheer pace even as Rovman Powell took a couple of steps forward to get to the ball. However, in a moment of sheer genius, the Caribbean giant sprung his body forward with hands extended beyond the torso and in one clean motion held onto the white rock to complete a stunning catch.
The Royals were understandably ecstatic at having pulled the big fish and their jubilation was reflected in Twitterati’s glowing praise on the brilliant grab.
Oh lord!
Brilliant catch!
