PSG star warms up for Barcelona tie in style

Kylian Mbappe warmed up for his huge Champions League rematch with Barcelona in style on Saturday.

The PSG forward netted a double as his side earned a 3-0 away win at Brest in the Coupe de France.

It was not what Barca, who have been resurgent since Mbappe’s hat-trick in the first leg of the blockbuster continental tie, will have wanted to see.

Here are the details of the World Cup winner’s latest excellent performance.

📷 Kylian Mbappe: Match Snapshot

⏱️ 9′ Mbappe opened the scoring with a superb solo effort. He initially received possession just inside his own half and embarked on a long dribble, fending off multiple defenders before firing a shot past Sebastien Cibois and into the top corner from the edge of the penalty box.

Mbappe hit the post before Pablo Sarabia made it two for PSG prior to half-time, while Cibois denied the France forward in a one-on-one opportunity after the break.

⏱️ 73′ Mbappe put the result beyond doubt late on, producing an unusual chested finish from Marco Verratti’s pass.

Mbappe ended up with game-high statistics in a number of key categories including attempts on goal (5) and touches in the box (9).

〽️ Kylian Mbappe: Rating Week-on-Week

Mbappe earned an impressive 8.6 FC Rating for his exploits against Brest.

That was an improvement on the also excellent 8.2 FC Rating he received when scoring a double against Dijon in Ligue 1 the last time he took to the pitch.

It was the best performance from Mbappe in his last three games, but did not top the perfect 10 he got in the first leg at Barcelona.

On a strong night of PSG performances, Mbappe did not quite get our man-of-the-match award. That honour went to Verratti (9.0), who just edged out goalkeeper Sergio Rico (8.8).

Mbappe: What Next?

All eyes are now on the second leg of the PSG v Barcelona tie.

Mbappe was brilliant as he scored a hat-trick to give PSG what should be an unassailable 4-1 lead in the last-16 contest.

The two teams do battle again in Paris on Wednesday, with Lionel Messi facing the prospect of elimination against the team who reportedly want to sign him.

But PSG know to take nothing for granted having fallen victim to a famous Barca comeback in the past.

Also on the horizon for Mbappe this month is a key Ligue 1 match away to title rivals Lyon.
