Pilot Dies, Passenger Injured After Plane Crashes in Georgia


One person died following a small plane crash Sunday night in a residential neighborhood of Savannah, Georgia, according to local police.

The Savannah Police Department stated that officers were dispatched to the crash site on East 66th Street, which is located approximately 3 miles south of the city’s historic landmark district. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide aid.

“The pilot is deceased, and the passenger has minor injuries,” the Savannah police posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. They further stated, “No one on the ground was injured,” alleviating concerns for residents in the area.

The Savannah firefighter union reported on Facebook that the crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Local firefighters and emergency services worked together to secure the area, ensuring that no further incidents could occur.

The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association shared a photograph of the mangled plane lying in front of a house, illustrating the severity of the crash and the damage inflicted.

According to FlightAware, the airplane is registered to Marti Jorge out of Miami. The aircraft is a 1964 CESSNA 336, Fixed-wing multiengine with 4 seats.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been called in to conduct a thorough investigation. Initial reports indicate that the small aircraft may have experienced technical difficulties before it went down, but investigators have not confirmed any specifics at this time.
