Owner Takes Velcro Dog To Explore Huge Field, It Doesn’t Go As Expected

A dog owner from San Diego took her velcro dog to a big field so he could run and play, but instead, he chose to do the opposite.

A video shared on TikTok in April, under the username tuckerandshannon, shows the Dalmatian having a look around the field at all the other dogs and people enjoying the sunny day, before taking a seat right next to his owner.

The poster’s multiple attempts at pushing him out of his comfort zone and getting him to run around the field were all in vain, as the dog decided he just wanted to relax in the sun right by his favorite person.

The hilarious video comes with a caption that reads: “When you take your velcro dog to a big field to run.” This was followed by: “So much land, so little exploring.”

Velcro dogs are named after the fastening tape because they behave like they are attached to their owners. Kait Hembree, veterinary behavior nurse, and head of training at the Boston-based GoodPup, previously told Newsweek that while loving their humans is normal for pups, being extra clingy all the time is not.

She said that there could be different reasons behind this behavior. One is that your dog is not getting enough mental stimulation or physical exercise.

It could also be due to their age or breed, but the most likely reason is that it’s a learned behavior that you inadvertently reinforced.

“We like it when our dogs seek us out. It makes us feel wanted and needed, and we return that feeling by engaging our dogs with pets, praise, and our own adoration. All of these can reinforce clingy behavior with our dogs,” Hembree said.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across social media. It has so far received over 735,200 views and 140,200 likes on TikTok.

One user, Tina, commented: “I have a high energy dog who’s also a Velcro dog which means I had to start running so he gets his exercise, got me back in shape tho lol.”

A.tired.slytherin said: “100% my dog. Rented out a Sniffspot all for her to explore… she took maybe 2 steps away from me and then came back and sat next to me for the hour.”

Trinity Higgins27 added: “I took mine to boarding school this week and they tried to practice recall but she would go more than 4 ft away from the trainers.”
