Owa Retamar signs with Cignal HD Spikers in Spikers’ Turf
MANILA, Philippines — After leading National University to a historic ‘four-peat’ in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament, Owa Retamar embarks on a new chapter in his volleyball career with the Cignal HD Spikers.
Cignal on Friday welcomed the National University star setter, who will be joining the champion squad in the Spikers’ Turf.
Despite receiving numerous offers, Retamar chose the HD Spikers in the hopes of to contributing to the most successful Spikers’ Turf club.

“Alam niyo naman po na hindi ako basta nagpapatalo kaya po dito ako kung saan buong buo ang champion mentality ng mga makakasama ko,” said Retamar, who signed with Cignal on Thursday, accompanied by his agency VP Management Global.
“Thank you sa Cignal management dahil pinakita nila agad yung pagpapahalaga sa akin at kung paano nila ako aalagaan. Salamat din sa VP Global Management sa pag-gabay.”
Interestingly, Retamar was a thorn in the side of Cignal as Sta. Elena-NU beat the club in the 2022 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference and last year’s Invitational Conference.

Now that he’s part of the HD Spikers, the two-time UAAP Best Setter hopes to repay the club’s trust by winning a championship with them, this time.
“To the Awesome Nation, hindi niyo na ako kalaban ngayon,” he concluded on his statement.
The back-to-back UAAP Finals MVP is reunited with his fellow NU product Bryan Bagunas and their Alas Pilipinas teammate Jau Umandal.
Retamar bid farewell to the Bulldogs after winning a fourth consecutive championship despite having a year of eligibility in the UAAP. He can still have a change of heart since the league is still on a semi-pro status.
The setter’s main focus for now is Alas Pilipinas’ upcoming stint in the AVC Challenge Cup from June 2 to 9 in Bahrain.
