‘Our fans did not attack Rangers International’
In a recent statement, Plateau United FC have vehemently denied allegations that their fans attacked players of Rangers International FC following a scoreless draw in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match on November 10, 2024, in Jos.
The match, which ended in a 0-0 stalemate, has been marred by claims from the Rangers team about an alleged incident of fan misconduct.
The claims emerged after a number of photographs and videos circulated on social media, reportedly showing an injured Rangers player.
According to Rangers International, the injury was inflicted by harmful pebbles thrown by Plateau United fans, leading to damage to their property as well.
In response, Plateau United emphasized that the players and officials from Rangers departed the New Jos Stadium safely and without any incident.
The club highlighted that the Rangers team successfully conducted a post-match interview before leaving the venue. Reports indicate that the alleged incident occurred nearly two kilometers away from the stadium, raising questions about the validity of the claims made by Rangers.
Plateau United’s General Manager, Habila Hosea Mutla, stated, “We are a peaceful club who believe in either of three outcomes when we step out for an encounter: to win, lose, or draw.” He reaffirmed the club’s commitment to maintaining order and security during matches, insisting that they have no connection to any individuals purportedly involved in the alleged attack.
While the nature of the incident remains unclear, Plateau United has condemned any form of hooliganism among its supporters and expressed its intention to uphold a spirit of sportsmanship within the league.
