‘Osimhen will be fantastic for Liverpool as Mo Salah replacement ‘ – Former Kop star says
Former Liverpool and Scotland right-back Steve Nicol has suggested that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen should be considered as a replacement for the aging Mo Salah at Anfield.
Despite Osimhen’s recent injury setbacks affecting his performance, Salah has maintained impressive stats this season, netting 23 goals and providing 13 assists in 37 appearances.
Tonight, the Reds face an uphill task as they travel to Bergamo, trailing 3-0 from the first leg against Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League.
With Salah’s potential departure looming and uncertainties surrounding Klopp’s future, Liverpool may face challenges in retaining the Egyptian forward beyond his contract expiration in 2025.
Nicol suggests that the allure of lucrative deals from Saudi Arabia could further complicate matters, as evidenced by recent departures of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Roberto Firmino.
If Salah were to depart, Nicol believes that recruiting Osimhen would be an ideal response from Liverpool’s management. The 62-year-old emphasized the need for a hardworking forward who can complement the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while also providing support to Salah.
“The fact that Salah is leaving, whether this year or next year, Osimhen? I think he would be fantastic for Liverpool. In the middle of the park, we’ve just signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Endo’s turned out to be incredible, you need someone who will run all day and give it to Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Salah,” the 62-year-old said on ESPN FC.
