Onana shines as Cameroon seal 2025 AFCON place
Onana Shines as Cameroon Secures AFCON Qualification
Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana continued his impressive form as Cameroon secured their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco. The Indomitable Lions earned a 0-0 draw against Namibia in the final qualifier, a result that was enough to see them through to the prestigious continental competition.
Onana, who has been in exceptional form for both club and country, made key saves during the match to maintain his clean sheet. The Manchester United shot-stopper has conceded just one goal in five matches throughout the AFCON qualifiers, showcasing his consistency and skill between the posts.
Meanwhile, other teams also confirmed their qualification for the 2025 AFCON. Defending champions Ivory Coast secured their spot with a 1-1 draw against Chad, while Equatorial Guinea benefited from Togo’s 1-0 loss to Liberia. Other teams already confirmed for the tournament include Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles remain on course to qualify, leading their group with 10 points from four matches. They will face Benin in their final qualifier at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, needing just one more point to confirm their place in Morocco. With key players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and William Troost-Ekong in fine form, the Super Eagles are confident of securing their passage to the tournament.
