Real Sociedad have announced the signing of Nigerian-born youngster Sydney Osazuwa from Leganés, marking their second transfer from the JuvenilDH in a week, following the acquisition of Tomy Carbonell.
Leganés officially confirmed the transfer of the 2007-born Spanish forward to Real Sociedad. Osazuwa joined Leganés last season from Granada and, after just one year in the club’s youth academy, is now moving to Real Sociedad, known for having one of the best youth academies in Spain.
In his only season at Leganés, Osazuwa had a standout year, achieving significant objectives for a first-year youth player. He was one of the top players in DH5 during the first part of the season and the Copa del Rey. Forming a formidable partnership with Koke Mota, who has since moved to Atlético de Madrid, Osazuwa scored eight goals in DH5 and one goal in the Copa del Rey youth team.
Osazuwa’s impressive performance caught the attention of the first-team coach, leading to multiple call-ups in LaLiga Hypermotion between December and January. He made his debut in a match against Oviedo, becoming the second youngest player in Leganés’ history to play in the league, following Samuel Eto’o.
Towards the end of the season, Osazuwa was promoted to Leganés B, helping lead the team to the playoffs for promotion to the second RFEF, although they were ultimately knocked out by Moscardó. He also scored in the Third RFEF and was called up to the Spanish U-17 team, playing and scoring in the European Championship, where Spain was eliminated in the group stage.
Known for his physical prowess and quickness in space, Osazuwa excels as a lone centre forward and is effective in an attacking duo. He is admired for his headers and ability to pin down centre-backs, making him a key player in attack. His idol, Erling Haaland, influences his style of play.
Sydney Osazuwa will initially join Sanse, Real Sociedad’s reserve team, which competes in the Primera RFEF. This move is a significant step in his career, offering him the opportunity to gain more minutes and experience in a highly competitive league.
