Nigerian-born Serie A star reveals Chelsea ambition
Danish-Nigerian left-back, Patrick Dorgu, has expressed his desire to join six-time English champions Chelsea, highlighting his admiration for the club despite reported interest from other Premier League sides.
The talented defender has been in fine form in Serie A this season, featuring prominently for Lecce as a fullback under the guidance of manager Roberto D’Aversa and subsequently, Luca Gotti.
Although not a regular starter, Dorgu has made good use of the opportunities he gets with his performances, notably securing a crucial victory for Lecce against Fiorentina with a dramatic winning goal, further attracting attention from various clubs.
In the January transfer window, Dorgu was linked with moves to Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham. However, Lecce opted to retain the promising youngster despite the interest.
Acknowledging the speculation surrounding his future, Dorgu spoke about his affinity for Chelsea, expressing his dream of playing for the club. “I have been a Chelsea fan for many years, so of course, it’s clear that it is a dream,” he stated in an interview with Flashscore via Teamtalk.
While Chelsea currently boast options like Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella at left-back, reports suggest the club is open to selling the latter, potentially creating an opportunity for Dorgu to make his move.
With 26 appearances across all competitions this season, the 19-year-old has demonstrated his potential with two goal involvements, underscoring his value as a rising talent in European football.
