Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okoronkwo joins Wrexham

Nigerian-born goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who joined Arsenal in 2009, has bid farewell to the club in 2024, signing a permanent deal with Wrexham AFC.

The 22-year-old first joined Wrexham on a loan deal last September, which saw him play 40 games across all competitions, keeping 16 clean sheets and helping the Red Dragons secure promotion to League One by finishing second in Sky Bet League Two.

Okonkwo’s new deal with Wrexham runs through the end of the 2026-2027 season. He expressed his gratitude to Arsenal, where he has been since he was eight years old, in a heartfelt social media post. “The time has come to say goodbye @arsenal ❤️,” he wrote, reminiscing about his 15-year journey with the club, thanking coaches, teammates, and fans for their support and contributions to his development.

While Okonkwo has represented England at the youth level, he remains eligible to play for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles. As he joins Wrexham permanently, Okonkwo looks forward to a new chapter in his career, carrying forward the experiences and memories from his long stay at Arsenal.
