Newcastle vs Man Utd (1-1) Dec 27, 2021 Match Preview and Stats

Manchester United haven’t played a game in over two weeks, and their return to the pitch on Monday night will also mark the return of a number of key players.

Ralf Rangnick has only coached two Premier League matches at Man Utd and was without a full-strength squad for those games, but that will change as United travel to Newcastle United on Monday.

Paul Pogba is the only Red Devils player still injured, with his return date unknown, but Rangnick will be boosted by a plethora of players returning to fitness, bolstering the depth of the matchday squad.

David De Gea will remain in goal and one major return will come in front of him, with Raphael Varane available to come back in at centre-back alongside Harry Maguire.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is fit again but could remain on the bench with Diogo Dalot favoured at right-back, while Alex Telles is likely to start having been preferred by Rangnick so far.

Fred has looked in fine form since the German took over at Old Trafford and he should resume at the base of the box midfield alongside Scott McTominay, with Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho operating ahead of them.

Much has been made of the roles of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford and which should play on the left and which should play up front, but Rangnick has shown an early tendency to put them together as strikers and will likely do so again.

Outside of the starting XI, though, there will be returns for Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial as well as Wan-Bissaka, giving the United dugout a considerably stronger look.
