Netherlands Beat Turkey To Reach First Euro S/finals In 20 Years
The Netherlands had to come from behind to beat Turkey 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Euro 2024 on Saturday.
It is a first European Championship semi-final appearance for the Netherlands since 2004.
Samet Akaydin gave Turkey the lead in the 35th minute as he nodded home Arda Guler’s cross.
In the second half the Netherlands came out more purposeful and were rewarded on 70 minutes as Stefan de Vrij headed home Memphis Depay’s cross.
In the 76th minute Netherlands went 2-1 ahead as Mert Muldur slotted home a cross into his own net whole trying to prevent Cody Gakpo from reaching the ball.
The Turkish players poured forward in search of the equaliser but were denied twice.
First, the ball was cleared off the line while the Netherlands keeper made a point blank save.
The Netherlands will now face England in the semi-finals billed for Wednesday in Dortmund.
The Three Lions booked their place in the last four after beating Switzerland on penalties.
