NASCAR Driver Breaks Silence After Crash That Sent Rival To Hospital

Conner Jones has broken his silence following a crash during the Baptist Health 200, at Homestead-Miami Speedway as part of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, that sent fellow driver Matt Mills to the hospital.

The fiery collision fortunately saw Mills exiting his car without any visible harm. However, he was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, as confirmed by FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass:

“Matt Mills being taken to hospital. Obviously he got out of his truck after the fire and hard hit. Jones declined comment after the race.”

Conner Jones, racing for ThorSport Racing, was quick to take to social media to express his feelings about the incident. On X, formerly Twitter, Jones released a statement addressing the crash, his actions, and the repercussions thereof. He admitted responsibility for his role in the accident.

“I have not yet had the chance to personally apologize to Matt for the incident that took place during today’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but I intend to do so,” Jones posted. “Matt and I have encountered several on-track incidents this season, and I let my frustration get the best of me. I underestimated the impact my actions would have on Matt, and I deeply regret the consequences that followed.”

The incident did not pass unnoticed by NASCAR officials, who imposed a two-lap penalty on Jones. The intense nature of Jones’ feelings was clear from documented team communications where he shouted, “I’m getting f***ing run over, left and f***ing right. I’m done,” just before the collision occurred.

Matt Mills recently signed a contract extension with Niece Motorsports for the 2025 season. He remains optimistic about his future with the team, as reported by Newsweek Sports.

“I’m extremely fortunate to have people like JF Electric and Utilitra coming on board and supporting me on this journey again,” Mills shared. “I’m excited to finish off the year strong and ready to keep working into next year.”

Cody Efaw, the General Manager of Niece Motorsports, offered praise for Mills:

“Matt has been a great add to our team this year,” Efaw said. “Even though he’s been racing in NASCAR for a long time, he entered this season with a fresh mindset. The Truck Series is a completely different animal.”

Conner Jones, meanwhile, continues to face scrutiny over his driving. Known for his aggressive and daring driving, Jones has been criticized for his recklessness. His involvement in the crash at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, a track known for its fast-paced and often, dramatic races, has once again brought his driving style under the microscope.

“My thoughts are with Matt, during this time after hearing that he has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation following the contact on the racetrack,” Jones ended.
