A 360-degree star in the T20 format, Surya was training in the NCA after undergoing surgery following an ankle injury suffered during the T20I series against South Africa in December. He was also the captain of the Indian side during the series.
As of now, Surya is confirmed to not take part at least in the Mumbai Indians’ opening encounter against the Titans in Ahmedabad. Surya is supposed to take his next fitness test on March 23 when further updates on his availability will be known.
The 33-year-old has been a mainstay for the Mumbai Indians in the last half a decade, scoring 2,641 runs across the last six editions at an average of 35-plus and strike rate nearing 150. His absence could mean an opportunity for Nehal Wadhera to get into the playing XI.
