Mohamed Salah makes history with Liverpool in Europa League triumph
Liverpool demonstrated their dominance against Sparta Prague in the Europa League, with Mohamed Salah etching his name into the club’s record books once again.
Salah’s achievement marked a historic moment in Liverpool’s 131-year history, as he became the first player to score 20 or more goals in seven consecutive seasons for the club.
The remarkable milestone was achieved during Liverpool’s emphatic 6-1 victory over Sparta Prague in the second leg at Anfield, securing their progression to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, having already secured a commanding 5-1 win in the first leg, approached the return fixture with a rotated squad, keeping in mind the crucial upcoming match against Manchester United.
Liverpool wasted no time asserting their dominance, as Darwin Nunez opened the scoring early with a powerful strike from the edge of the area. Youngster Bobby Clark added to the lead with his first goal of the night, setting the stage for Salah’s historic moment as he made it 3-0 just 10 minutes into the game.
The onslaught continued after halftime, with Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai adding to the scoreline before Gakpo sealed his brace to wrap up the night for Liverpool.
Despite the collective brilliance displayed by the team, Salah inevitably stole the spotlight with his 20th goal of the campaign across all competitions. This achievement placed him ahead of Liverpool legends such as Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, and Fernando Torres in terms of consistently prolific scoring seasons at the club.
In addition to his goal, Salah contributed three assists on the night, further solidifying his impact as Liverpool comfortably advanced to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Salah’s extraordinary feat was celebrated by Liverpool FC on social media, emphasising his unprecedented achievement in the club’s illustrious history.
