Mikel Arteta faces former side at the Emirates

Both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain were not at their best in their opening Champions League fixtures a couple of weeks ago so will be hoping to lay down a marker here.

There will be an extra focus on Gunners boss Mikel Arteta for this one as he played with the French giants for a short period on loan in the 2001/2002 season.

Match Preview

Arsenal Recent Form

Arsenal are unbeaten this season in eight games across all competitions and currently sit third in the Premier League. They are off the pace in the top flight slightly after draws against Brighton and Manchester City.

Since the draw against City, they have won two games in a row, beating Bolton 5-1 in the League Cup and Leicester 4-2 in the Premier League.

They had to rely on two injury-time goals to get the better of the Foxes, though.

In the Champions League, they drew away at Atalanta on Matchday One.

Arsenal Injury News

Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney remain absent for this one, though there is hope that Merino could fully recover from his freak shoulder injury soon.

Ben White has missed Arsenal’s last two games and remains a doubt, which will mean Jurrien Timber continuing at right-back.

Here’s how Arsenal lined up against Leicester.

Paris Saint-Germain Recent Form

Like Arsenal, PSG are undefeated in the new campaign and have only dropped points on one occasion, drawing 1-1 with Reims a couple of weeks ago. So far in Ligue 1 they have beat Le Havre, Montpellier, Lille, Brest and Rennes.

In their first Champions League game, they were unconvincing in a 1-0 home win against Girona.

Paris Saint-Germain Injury News

News broke on Monday morning that influential winger Ousmane Dembele has been left out of the squad to face Arsenal after an argument with head coach Luis Enrique following the victory over Rennes.

Enrique is also missing Goncalo Ramos, Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe, Marco Asensio and Desire Doue due to injury.

Vitinha, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Nuno Mendes have a chance of making it, but are doubts.

Last Paris Saint-Germain Lineup

Here’s how PSG lined up against Rennes.

Arsenal – Player To Watch

After receiving criticism for becoming the first player in Premier League history to fail to complete a single pass in 90 minutes – a feat he achieved against Man City – Kai Havertz has responded with two goals in two games for the Gunners.

PSG – Player To Watch

Bradley Barcola went four games without scoring for club and country before the weekend when he put two past Rennes. He has six goals in six Ligue 1 appearances so far this campaign.

Arsenal vs PSG – Prediction

On paper, this looks like two evenly matched teams, but the dynamic of the fixture has been changed due to Arsenal failing to win their opening game against Atalanta. They definitely want to avoid two without a win at the start of the League Phase.

Scoreline prediction – Arsenal 2-1 PSG
