Liverpool vs Aston Villa Predicted Lineups: Nunez to return?
There’s a late Premier League game on Saturday evening this weekend and it is sure to be an entertaining one as Unai Emery’s Aston Villa travel to Anfield to face Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
The Reds are in brilliant form at the moment with 11 wins recorded from their last 12 games, with the only points dropped in that run coming versus Arsenal in the league a couple of weeks ago.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, have suffered a worrying dip in form and have lost three in a row against Crystal Palace in the League Cup, Tottenham in the Premier League and Club Brugge in the Champions League.
There are no fresh injury concerns for Slot from midweek but Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker remain out.
Here’s how Liverpool lined up against Leverkusen.
Matty Cash and Ross Barkley missed the Club Brugge game and it is unlikely they will return in time for this one.
Here’s how Aston Villa lined up against Club Brugge.
One alteration we could see in the Liverpool defence is Andy Robertson being restored at left-back instead of Kostas Tsimikas. Robertson was previously the first-choice left-back but the pair are sharing duties more equally now.l
Dominik Szoboszlai may replace Ryan Gravenberch in midfield, while Darwin Nunez could return to the starting XI at the expense of Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Jones; Diaz, Nunez, Salah
One change that is expected from Emery is Tyrone Mings dropping to the bench. He made a long-awaited first Champions League start following his serious knee injury last time out, but cost his side the game by bizarrely picking up the ball inside his own box, thinking it was not in play. He won’t be dropped because of that, but because he is still finding match sharpness.
Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey could return to the starting XI, too.
Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Maatsen; Onana, Tielemans; McGinn, Ramsey, Rodgers; Watkins
