Leicester vs Tottenham Preview: Monday Night Football

The first Monday Night Football of the season sees newly promoted Leicester face Tottenham.

It was less than a decade ago that Leicester were crowned champions but their fortunes slowly faded thereafter to the point they suffered relegation. But, there will be a sense of excitement at being back after emphatically winning the Championship.

Spurs are still a work-in-progress under Ange Postecoglou and their aim for the campaign will be to finally return to the Champions League.

Leicester recent form

The Foxes didn’t impress in pre-season and lost three out of four friendlies against Palermo, Augsburg and Lens.

They defeated Shrewsbury.

Leicester injury news

Leicester are missing three key players for the game as Conor Coady, Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka are all injured. Daka will be absent for a few months after undergoing ankle surgery.

Tottenham recent form

Tottenham took part in five pre-season games and defeated Queens Park Rangers, Vissel Kobe and a K-League XI, while they lost twice against Bayern Munich.

Tottenham injury news

The only definite absentee for Spurs is Yves Bissouma who has been suspended for one match by the club for inhaling laughing gas on holiday.

Dominic Solanke is in line for a debut after his big-money move from Bournemouth.

Leicester – Player to Watch?

Stephy Mavidi recorded 20 goal contributions in the Championship last season and with Vardy missing, Leicester will be looking to him to deliver in the final third.

Tottenham – Player to Watch?

When Harry Kane left, a lot of pressure was heaped onto the shoulders of Heung min-Son, and he remains their best player and best goal threat.

The home crowd will be sizzling at Premier League football being back, but Spurs are more than capable of playing football under extreme pressure and they should have too much for the hosts here.

Leicester 0-2 Tottenham

Son is comfortably the best player in this match, so back him to score the opener.
