Lauren Boebert Repeatedly Demands Joe Biden Proves He’s Not Dead
Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has repeatedly demanded “proof of life” from Joe Biden, amid a MAGA conspiracy theory that the President is dead.
Biden is currently recovering from a Covid-19 infection, but official updates from the White House and his doctor about his condition have not been enough to assure Boebert that he is alive. Some celebrities, including country musician John Rich, have also demanded an appearance from Biden.
Boebert has posted a series of demands on X, formerly Twitter, calling for video evidence that Biden is alive and in control of his faculties. Similar unsubstantiated allegations of a cover-up hiding Biden’s death or incapacity are circulating online, with allegations posted by members of the Donald Trump-supporting MAGA movement.
Covid-stricken Biden has not been seen publicly for several days as he recovers from the infection while isolating at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. But he was seen in videos boarding Air Force One in Las Vegas and walking down the steps again unaided after arriving in Delaware.
The 81-year-old released a written statement on Sunday announcing his intention to step down from the electoral campaign against Republican rival Trump, following increasing concerns about the President’s health and cognitive abilities. A string of public gaffes and memory lapses, coupled with a series of falls, culminated in demands from his own side to quit the race. Vice President Kamala Harris is now set to become the Democratic presidential nominee at the party’s convention next month, ahead of November’s election.
Republican politician Boebert took to X on Monday to say: “I demand proof of life from Joe Biden today by 5:00pm. He needs to get in front of some camera and discuss if he’s aware that he dropped out [of the presidential race]. Hiding is completely unacceptable.” Her post was shared by other X users 23,000 times and garnered 14,000 comments.
Some respondents agreed with her, with one commentator saying it was “a national security issue [because] America needs competent and visible leadership,” while another added that Biden’s “absence and the timing are suspicious,” and others alleged without evidence that Biden had been deposed by “a coup” and that his signature had been forged on the statement.
But most replied to mock or dismiss her claims, with some commentators accusing her of showing “disrespect” to an elderly man who was battling an illness, while others slammed the politician for appearing to “peddle the latest conspiracy theory.”
Undeterred, Boebert continued to post demands through the day, saying a couple of hours later: “Again, I am calling for a proof of life appearance of Joe Biden.”
And when the White House published a letter from Physician to the President Kevin O’Conner, Boebert shared the document online with the caption: “A letter from a doctor is not proof of life. For the third time today, I’m asking Joe Biden to provide the American people with proof of life.”
Newsweek has reached out by email to both Boebert and the White House, seeking comment.
Boebert is a fierce ally of former President Donald Trump and has been campaigning for another term in office for herself, as well as backing Trump’s bid to move back into the White House.
