Lauren Boebert Mocked in Viral Post Days Before Election

Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert was mocked by Star Wars legend Mark Hamill on social media as the state’s primary election nears.

The Republican congresswoman, who serves Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District but is running for her state’s 4th District in November, has had strong support in polling leading up to the primary vote on Tuesday, as five other candidates are challenging for the GOP nomination.

Since taking office in 2021, Boebert has become one of the more controversial members of Congress. She was escorted out of a Denver theater performance of the musical Beetlejuice in September for vaping and disrupting the show. A video recording also showed the U.S. congresswoman and her date fondling each other in their seats. The incident has haunted her, and has been used against her as she vies for another seat in the House of Representatives.

Last week, a Democratic candidate for Colorado’s 4th District hoping to face Boebert in November, John Padora, posted a campaign video of him sitting in the same theater from which the congresswoman was ousted, and called Boebert a “opportunist carpetbagger.” Padora said that he was sitting in the “very same seat” where his Republican rival sat during Beetlejuice.

The video was reshared by Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movie series, in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday. Hamill wrote along with the video, “Hey Colorado- Please vote for John Padora. Not only is he the far superior candidate, but it will give his opponent plenty of free time to catch the ending of the #BeetlejuiceMusical she missed the first time. #WinWin.”

At the time of publication, Hamill’s post had been viewed over 674,000 times.

Padora responded to Hamill’s post and thanked him for the support, writing that he was “Floored.” Padora also shared a report by TMZ regarding Hamill’s endorsement in a separate post, writing on X, “Thank you, @TMZ!”

Newsweek reached out to Boebert’s press office via email for comment on Monday.

Polling from Kaplan Strategies conducted on May 31 found that 40 percent of registered voters who are likely to vote Republican plan to support Boebert in the polls Tuesday, while another 40 percent of 343 voters surveyed said they were undecided. The congresswoman’s five Republican challengers earned little support in the same poll.

Padora may have an uphill battle to win the Democratic nomination in his district on Tuesday. A poll conducted by Gravis Marketing in March found that U.S. Marines veteran Ike McCorkle was leading his party in Colorado’s 4th District, earning 21 percent of the vote out of a survey of 439 registered voters who are likely to vote Democratic.

The second in line was Karen Breslin, with 11 percent of vote, while Padora ranked third, with 9 percent. Colorado’s 4th District is expected to be won by a Republican in November.
