Laughter as Great Dane Who ‘Thinks He’s Human’ Loves to Pet Other Dogs

The heartwarming moment a Great Dane sat alongside his owner to pet other dogs has gained viral attention online.

In a video on TikTok with more than 852,000 views, the footage from @anio_mochi shows the 1-year-old Great Dane Mochi sitting alongside his owner, petting a golden retriever on the head.

“POV [Point of view] your dog thinks he’s human and sits on benches, petting other dogs with you,” said the text overlay on the video. The caption read: “Like mother like son.” Newsweek reached out to @anio_mochi via TikTok for comment.

Great Danes, known for their friendly and patient nature, are a beloved breed. Recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1887, today they rank as the 19th most-popular breed in the United States. These gentle giants typically stand between 28 and 32 inches tall and can weigh up to 175 pounds. When standing on their hind legs, they often tower over humans.

The viral moment highlights Mochi’s endearing nature—something that is typical of the breed. Great Danes are generally good with other dogs and people, and have a huge affectionate streak. Originally bred as hunting dogs in the Middle Ages, they were used to hunt bears, wild boar, and deer. Today, they are much more likely to be seen in the house enjoying a pampering—but their large size may still make home intruders think twice.

Earlier this year, a Great Dane melted hearts after he was caught on camera seeing his puppies for the first time. When he was introduced to his puppies, dad dog Garruk was adorably gentle.

“We honestly had no idea what his reaction would be when he saw the babies, but he is such an amazingly sweet boy that we weren’t surprised of his gentleness toward them,” owner Mandy Weslow told Newsweek.

In the comments on TikTok, people were delighted by the dog’s humanlike reaction to seeing a fellow canine.

“I’m sure he’s thinking ‘aww, that’s a cute dog,'” TikTok user Ebeline commented, while MetalChickSam88 added: “Omg [Oh my god] cuteness overload.

Other pet owners shared their own experiences of humanlike pets. Jenny wrote: “My dog sits next to me on a chair while waiting to be called at the vet.”
