Latest NFL Signings and News in a Wild Week of Action

The biggest news in the NFL this past week may have been the unveiling of the 2024 season schedule, but that was hardly the only news to come out. The offseason is always a fun time for everyone, and teams are still trying to finalize their personnel for the start of the season. We have seen rookie camps start up and training camp will be here sooner than many realize.

One of the bigger stories from the NFL this week was that quarterback Jared Goff signed a massive extension to remain with the Detroit Lions. He agreed to a reported four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million guaranteed.

After leading the Lions to their first playoff win in over 30 years, Goff is rewarded heavily. He has improved his play each season with the Lions, earning a strong reputation in Detroit. After a run to the NFC Championship game last season, the Lions are ranked by many as being in the inner circle of candidates to win the Super Bowl this year.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reached an agreement with star safety Antoine Winfield Jr. on a four-year, $84.1 million deal. He made history with this signing, becoming the first safety to reach this mark. Winfield Jr. helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl a few years ago.

The Buffalo Bills signed former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal that is worth up to $4.5 million. Valdes-Scantling won two Super Bowls while with Kansas City over the years.

Pittsburgh Steelers star defensive end Cam Heyward decided to not attend voluntary workouts this offseason as he wants a new contract from the team. He has never missed an offseason program in his long career, showing that he is serious in his desire for a new deal.

Former Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tunyan signed on with the Minnesota Vikings. He continues his tour of the NFC North with this agreement.

Former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Damiere Byrd signed with the Washington Commanders after working out for them this offseason.

The Bills signed safety Dee Delaney to a one-year contract while also releasing wide receiver Quintez Cephus. Buffalo has been active in building its roster this offseason following another quick playoff exit.

The Denver Broncos signed former Chicago Bears punter Trenton Gill to a new deal. Terms are undisclosed.

The San Francisco 49ers signed offensive tackle Chris Hubbard to a one-year deal worth $1.375 million. He brings more depth upfront to the equation for the defending NFC champions.
