Labrador Sees Owner’s Shadow, Internet Not Expecting ‘Priceless’ Reaction

A Labrador left the internet in stitches after it was petrified by their owner’s hand shadow.

The dog’s owner, known on TikTok as @wilsonnaugust, shared the dog’s hilarious reaction to the “shadow monster” in a video that has garnered 5.9 million views and 532,500 likes.

One viewer commented: “The shadow hand in Monster House scared me so bad as a kid,” relating to the dog’s dramatic reaction.

The “hand monster” that startled the Labrador in the video is a playful nod to the animated movie Monster House, a 2006 horror-comedy that follows three kids who uncover the terrifying secret of a haunted, living house.

In the video, two Labradors are lying on a deck when the owner playfully creates a shadow “hand monster,” wiggling her fingers to make a spidery effect.

She inches the shadow closer to the pup before quickly flinching her hand, causing the unsuspecting Labrador to leap back in fright.

Meanwhile, his black Labrador companion, Wilson, remains completely unfazed, fast asleep and oblivious to the commotion.

It’s common for dogs to react differently to unexpected sights and sounds based on their personalities and prior experiences.

According to PetMD, a dog’s DNA and early experiences can influence how they react to stimuli in their surroundings.

For some pooches, a single traumatic experience such as the unexpected setting off of firecrackers on a walk, can trigger a lifelong fear of loud noises.

Scared dogs often show signs such as” trembling, hunching their bodies, tucking their tails, growling and showing their teeth.

The mix of reactions—one dog hilariously terrified and the other unbothered—captivated viewers, who couldn’t get enough of the scene’s comedic contrast.

“I need people to appreciate the unbothered royalty in the back,” joked one user.

Another viewer chimed in: “Say sorry right now,” while others admitted to watching the clip multiple times.

“OK I want to know how many times we’ve all watched this. I’m on number seven right now,” confessed a fan.

One Labrador owner empathized, “Typical Labrador!! They fall for everything!! I have two Labs, so I understand completely!”

Another user called the moment, “Priceless.”

And for Erika, this video was her: “First literal laugh-out-loud of the day! Thank you!!”
