Jos Buttler to MI? Here’s Mumbai Indians’ Dream XI at IPL 2025 Auction
Fantasy booking at its peak! Yes, below we have curated an ideal XI that Mumbai Indians (MI) would love to have after the end of IPL 2025 mega auction.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Auction is just around the corner, and the excitement around it is absolutely palpable. As one of the most successful franchises in IPL history, Mumbai Indians (MI) have retained their core Indian group, including Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. With this strong foundation, MI will be looking to bolster their squad with shrewd signings to get their mojo back after some questionable last few seasons.
With the mega auction slated to happen on November 24-25, we have made a “Dream XI” for the Mumbai Indians Below, we have put the best possible combination that the MI could pick at the auction. While we know that no one can predict what happens at an IPL auction, it’s important to note that this is a purely speculative exercise. On that note, let’s hop into it!
MI: 1) Rohit Sharma
The ‘Mumbai cha Raja’ is ready to continue his legacy at the Mumbai Indians (MI). Yes, he was the fourth retention pick and it was heartening for all MI fans to see the Hitman continue with the team. Although Rohit has not light up the IPL as per his high standards, he remains to be one of the most influential figures and face of the franchise. Fans would hope that he brings his best in next IPL season.
MI: 2) Jos Buttler (Overseas)
Dynamic English wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has been a thorn in Mumbai Indians’ side in recent years, with his destructive batting prowess. In fact, he has made 533 runs at an average and SR of 59.2 and 148.05, respectively. Having previously played for the franchise, Buttler’s addition would provide a lethal opening combination alongside Rohit.
MI: 3) Suryakumar Yadav
One of the most innovative and consistent batters in world cricket, Suryakumar Yadav is a vital cog in MI’s batting lineup. The Indian T20 skipper has the ability to play unconventional shots and adapt to different situations. He has some amazing numbers at the Wankhede Stadium. Since 2023, SKY has made 577 runs at an average of above 57 and at a SR close to 200 at the venue.
MI: 4) Tilak Varma
A young and talented batter, Tilak Varma has shown immense promise and maturity in his short IPL career. His fearless approach and ability to play according to situations have made him stood out. Hence, MI have retained him. Varma, who recently captained in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, has 790 runs at an average close to 40 and at a SR of 146.3 for MI.
MI: 5) Hardik Pandya
Despite a forgettable IPL 2024, MI have announced that Hardik Pandya will continue leading the franchise. After all, he is premier all-rounder in world cricket. He will have to continue with his India form at MI. Pandya has been as dangerous as one could get. In fact, in last three years, the MI captain has scored 1042 runs in T20I cricket. This is the most any batter has scored while batting at number five to seven.

MI: 6) David Miller (Overseas)
A proven match-winner, David Miller’s ability to finish games strongly is unparalleled. His vast experience and big-hitting prowess make him a valuable addition to the MI squad and the South African can do something that Tim David couldn’t! This year, he has already played close to 40 T20s, making 846 runs at a SR close to 140.
MI: 7) Wanindu Hasaranga (Overseas)
Ever since they have left Rahul Chahar, Mumbai Indians have left a lot to be desired as far as spin bowling is concerned. While Piyush Chawla did well, he is well past his prime. Hence, buying Wanindu Hasaranga would be so crucial for MI. He will not only lead the spin attack but is a capable batter too. In franchise cricket this year, the Sri Lankan has 35 wickets in 22 innings and 340 runs at SR of 160.4.
MI: 8) Washington Sundar
The Impact Player rule pushed Washington Sundar away from IPL cricket. However, he raised his stocks up after a stellar show in the recent Test series against New Zealand. He will operate the spin bowling duties with Hasaranga and just elongates the batting order further.
MI: 9) Marco Jansen
A tall and talented fast bowler, Marco Jansen can extract extra bounce and swing from the Wankhede pitch. His ability to bowl at a good pace and take wickets with the new ball will do a world of good for MI, who like to have overseas left-arm pacers with them. Jansen also previously played for the franchise.
MI: 10) Jasprit Bumrah
And here comes the top retention pick for MI – Jasprit Bumrah. He is undoubtedly the best bowler across formats and will continue to spearhead the pace attack. He has taken 165 wickets at an improbable economy rate of 7.30 which is quite startling given the amount of runs scored in this league.
MI: 11) Arshdeep Singh
The fast bowling pair that won the T20 World Cup! Arshdeep Singh. It was surprising that the Punjab Kings (PBKS) released their star. While it will definitely be difficult to sign him for MI, he could form the most lethal pace bowling partnership with Bumrah and Jansen. IPL 2024 was quite superb for Arshdeep as he took 19 wickets at a bowling SR of 15.8.
Impact Substitute: Nehal Wadhera/Rasikh Salam Dar
The Mumbai Indians have always been known for their ability to unearth talented young players, and the impact substitute role could be filled by either Nehal Wadhera or Rasikh Salam Dar. Both have played for the franchise too!
