Jeremy Renner Shows Off Scars for the First Time Since Accident
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Jeremy Renner isn’t here to hide the physical reminders from his life-threatening snowplow accident in January 2023.
The Hawkeye star posed shirtless for the cover of Men’s Health magazine’s July/August issue with marks from the incident proudly on display. The 53-year-old actor’s scars from the multiple surgeries he underwent, are prominently visible on his back, shoulders, and stomach.
Renner, who endured critical injuries and was placed on life support after the accident, reflected on his journey and the new physical marks he carries. In a video accompanying the magazine spread, he shared, “I never really had scars before; they were probably more emotional, spiritual scars, you know? And now there are some physical ones. But the physical ones aren’t even from the accident, they’re just because of the accident. All those are just reminders of the beautiful, beautiful day that could have been a really bad day.”
The harrowing incident occurred on New Year’s Day 2023 when Renner was helping his nephew Alex move a stuck vehicle when his snowplow began to slide and roll. Attempting to protect his nephew, the Mayor of Kingstown actor was caught and ultimately crushed by the machine. This resulted in over 30 broken bones and multiple other injuries.
Over the past year, Renner explained how he has progressed from being unable to walk to moving with the aid of a cane, and now can walk independently, thanks to daily workouts. Reflecting on his recovery, Renner said to the outlet, “I’m glad I’m here, and I’m going to keep feeding what you take with you: those shared experiences with those you love. It’s eternal, and you take it with you.”
Renner and the publication shared a collaborative Instagram post on Tuesday, June 25 of the cover which quickly racked up hundreds of comments from celebs and fans alike. Stars like Selma Blair and Walton Goggins left their well wishes, with Goggins hilariously commenting, “You beautiful man you,” which received over 300 likes.
The influx of comments continued from fans: “This man is a freakin machine!!!! He truly is a superhero !!! I am amazed at how far he has come after such traumatic injuries,” commented one user. Another hilariously noted, “Guy gets ran over and crushed and still looks better than most people 😂.”
