Internet Horrified To See How Man’s Pizza Was Delivered
There’s nothing like the ease of ordering takeout food and getting it delivered straight to your door, still piping hot and ready to eat. That’s certainly what one customer had in mind, but he’s left the internet horrified after revealing how it actually arrived.
In a now viral Reddit post, Daniel Djamal, 38, shared a picture of the sloppy mess that was supposed to be his hot-honey pepperoni pizza, ordered on June 14. The image showed the slices jumbled together in a heap after they’d fallen out of the box upon delivery.
There was no joy of opening the Pizza Hut box and smelling the delicious feast for Djamal, as he explained to Newsweek that the pizza “slipped out into the bag” when the Uber Eats driver went to hand it to him.
To make matters worse, Djamal, of Devon, in the United Kingdom’s southwest, said the driver handed him the empty cardboard box and picked out each individual slice “with his bare hands” and placed them in the box. Newsweek has contacted Pizza Hut and Uber Eats for comment.
Djamal said: “I knew it wasn’t right and I asked the driver if he was really going to expect me to eat that, and he shrugged and said I’d have to arrange something with Pizza Hut. I called them, but they just blamed the delivery driver.
“I tried to get hold of Uber Eats as well and they gave me an automatic refund but didn’t cover the delivery fees.”
After seeing the state of his pizza when it arrived, there was no chance that Djamal wanted to eat it anymore. Instead, he settled for his refund and left it in the trash.
“It was cold and had gone hard, plus it seemed overcooked to the point of being inedible,” he told Newsweek.
He originally took the picture to share with Uber Eats and Pizza Hut when he complained, however he subsequently shared it in a Reddit post on July 8. In the post, he wrote that it was how Deliveroo handed him the pizza, but he explained that it was an error. Although the delivery driver was carrying a Deliveroo bag, it was in fact delivered by Uber Eats.
Next to the image of his disheveled pizza, the caption reads: “He lifted the pizza box out of the bag in front of me and the pizza all fell out. He then handed the empty box to me, open, and scooped the pizza slices out of the bag with his bare hands and dropped them into the box.”
The Reddit post has disgusted social media users and it’s since gone viral with over 24,000 votes and 790 comments.
While the social media reaction didn’t undo what happened, Djamal has been heartened by the responses, which he says were “unanimously in my favor.” Many Redditors agreed that it was unacceptable to deliver a pizza like that, and others insisted that they too would refuse to eat it.
One comment reads: “How they even thought that was acceptable to be handed over, I do not understand.”
Another Reddit user wrote: “This is way beyond mildly infuriating.”
While one person added: “Contact your card company. Dispute the charges. This is theft of services. You paid for a sanitary food delivery. You never received that service.”
