IND vs NZ | Kane Williamson ruled out of second Test against India due to injury
Kane Williamson’s absence will be felt in Pune as New Zealand takes on India in the second Test match. Black Caps head coach Gary Stead noted that while Williamson is making progress, he is not yet prepared to return to Test cricket.
He said, “ We’re monitoring Kane and he’s tracking in the right direction, but isn’t yet 100% fit. We’re hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test.”
Williamson did not travel to India with the New Zealand squad after sustaining his injury during the tour of Sri Lanka last month and will stay home to continue his rehabilitation. In his absence, Will Young batted at No. 3 and scored 33 and 48 not out in the first Test in Bengaluru.
New Zealand is aiming for a historic series victory over India after stunning the hosts in the first Test. They will look to replicate that success in the second Test in Pune starting October 24.
On the other hand, India is eager to rebound from their eight-wicket defeat in the first Test. This loss has complicated their World Test Championship (WTC) final qualification, as they were counting on a 3-0 sweep over New Zealand for a smooth path to the final. Despite the setback, India still holds the top position in the WTC standings.
