How Patrick Mahomes Played Matchmaker for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

Patrick Mahomes believes he played a role in facilitating his teammate Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift, suggesting he deserves some credit for their connection.

“We enjoy it. It’s been a fun run,” Mahomes said on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, May 23, regarding Kelce and Swift’s relationship. “I like to take some of the credit. I was the one who invited Travis to the first Taylor concert when the friendship bracelet [plan was made].”

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback continued: “He was sitting in my suite so I feel like I was the matchmaker. I had some input in there as well. I was like, ‘Dude, just go for it.’ And, you know Travis, man, he does it and he’s a great dude and I’m glad that it’s all worked out for the best.”

The pivotal moment Mahomes alludes to is when Kelce attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Kansas City in July 2023 — the genesis of their relationship. Reflecting on this event during an episode of his podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, he shared his experience. “I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” Kelce recounted. “I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it. She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal.”

We later learned, from Swift herself, that this was the moment their relationship began. When the “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” songstress was recounting some details on the beginning of their relationship, she shared with Time in December 2023: “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell… We started hanging out right after that.

The Kansas City show marked the beginning of a series of concerts Kelce attended. Two months after their relationship went public, he joined Swift at her Buenos Aires show in November 2023. In a gesture acknowledging his presence, Swift altered the lyrics of the song “Karma” during the finale, substituting “guy on the screen” with “guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.”

Since then, Kelce has been a regular attendee at Swift’s shows, including ones in Sydney, Singapore, and most recently, Paris, in April. At the 87th show, coincidentally matching his jersey number, Swift made a special mention of it in the midst of the performance.
