Goldberg Speculated to Move to AEW After Final WWE Match

Goldberg has officially announced that he will be retiring from in-ring wrestling after one final upcoming mystery match, but there is already heated speculation that the legendary wrestler may move to the AEW after leaving the WWE.

Goldberg recently made an unexpected return to the WWE after a hiatus of over two years. During the Bad Blood Premium Live Event, he had a tense altercation with Gunther, sparking rumors and speculation that the WWE Hall of Famer might be gearing up for a match against the Ring General.

Soon after, Goldberg announced that WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque granted his request for a final match to close out his career.

Speaking on the SEC Network, the former Atlanta Falcons player said, “Here’s the deal. The news of the day is that, per three executives — Nick Khan, Chris Legentil, and Paul Levesque — in 2025, Goldberg is having his retirement match! I think we know who the subject or the victim, probably the frontrunner right now, we know who it is.”

Although there has not yet been an announced date for the match or even a definitive announcement of who he will face, people are already wondering if Goldberg’s retirement from wrestling or just the WWE.

AEW broadcaster Jim Ross shared his thoughts on the potential of Goldberg appearing at an AEW stadium event on an episode of “Grilling JR,” something Ross said he would love to see. Regarding the possibility of Goldberg retiring in WWE, Ross suggested that the decision on where his final match takes place will ultimately come down to financial factors.

Ross said, “[Goldberg is] a businessman through and through. He’s got a great agent. They’ll explore every opportunity and follow the cash. There’s a big payday there for him and [mutual agent] Barry Bloom, and it gets him restarted as far as awareness is concerned for other projects. It may be a one-off in the ring but it’s a multi-level prospect if he does it and he gets himself back on television.”

Despite speculation, Goldberg has been open in the past that he has little interest in the AEW. Earlier this year in an appearance on 93.7 The Ticket, the wrestler said, “I’ve talked to him [AEW President Tony Khan] a number of times throughout the past. This is where you’re gonna get the most blunt answer you’re gonna get from me.”

“The product is too cheesy…But if there was a comparable, viable option as a competitor that would allow me to still look myself in the mirror after I was a member of their roster, yeah, then it would be a consideration. But not a chance.”
