Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed hopes of Rohit Sharma leading the side in IND v AUS 1st Test
Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed hopes of Rohit Sharma leading the side in IND v AUS 1st Test. It was earlier reported that the veteran could miss the 1st Test in Perth owing to personal reasons. However, the birth of his second child means Sharma would now be clear to play the Perth Test and India need him now more than ever.
Ganguly wants Rohit Sharma to lead India in IND vs AUS 1st Test
As per RevSportz, Ganguly encouraged Rohit Sharma to be a part of IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. He highlighted that this might probably be the Hitman’s final tour to Australia, adding that the team very much needed his leadership.
“I hope Rohit Sharma goes very soon because the team needs leadership. The first Test is still a week away. If I were in his position, he should be playing the first Test. It’s a big series, and Rohit will not go to Australia again after this,” Sourav Ganguly said.

“I told him, ‘Don’t finish your career without being the Test captain of India.’ I am not surprised at what he has achieved,” Ganguly said.
Rohit Sharma had dropped a hint on missing the 1st Test in Perth following the series loss to New Zealand. However, he was blessed with a baby boy on Friday. casting further aspersions on his participation in IND vs AUS 1st Test. While India had considered KL Rahul as a back-up option as opener, it backfired after the batter suffered an elbow injury during the intra-squad match. With Gill hurting his finger as well, India’s best choices have been ruled out. The focus shifts to Easwaran and Gaikwad, both players who have been waiting for long to make their Test debut for India.
