Frankfurt vs Barcelona (1-1) Apr 7, 2022 Match Preview and Stats

Barcelona head into their Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday with a couple of selection issues in the mind of head coach, Xavi.

The Blaugrana will be hoping for a positive first-leg result in their quarter-final tie against Frankfurt, as they remain favourites to go on and win the Europa League.

Xavi has started a revolution at Camp Nou and there was previously a time when Barca were so far down the table in La Liga that the Europa League represented the club’s best option of qualifying for the Champions League.

Now they are comfortably in the top four, but a European triumph is certainly desired and it would be another trophy to add to the collection in Catalunya.

For the game itself, Xavi has a problem to sort at right-back.

Dani Alves is ineligible for the Europa League, while Sergino Dest will likely miss out due to a hamstring issue.

Ronald Araujo will be the man to come in at right-back.

Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong, Sergi Roberto and Samuel Umtiti are all missing.

The club has received positive news surrounding Ansu Fati as he is on the cusp of a return from injury, but this match will come too quickly for the young winger.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen will start in goal behind a likely back four of Araujo, Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia and Jordi Alba.

Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Sergio Busquets should retain their spots from the weekend win over Sevilla.

Xavi has more room for rotation in the final third, as we may see Adama Traore given a start instead of Ousmane Dembele on the right, with Gavi on the left and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang through the middle.
